Mercury Lounge NYC - August 16th, 2001

I saw Mary Prankster once before and was really amazed at how bad ass they rocked! I knew from then on, I was hooked.

I found out their next show date in NYC, and made my way to the Mercury Lounge. The one great thing about seeing a show at a small venue like that is the chance to hang out with the band without needing to be a groupie.

So, I'm sitting back on my bar stool when Jon walks in. I half expected him to be some arrogant-bass-player-rocker guy, but he was actually really cool and mellow. We shot the shit for a while before they went up on stage. I just hope I wasn't too much of a weird fan, but, then again, I think that's what they're looking for.

They had some people there, music lawyers, and a few hard core fans that traveled a couple hundred miles for the show. Now that's devotion!

Well, it was a historical show to say the least. In fact, it was killer. I don't know all the songs, but I recognized most. After about 5 songs into the set, Mary broke a string. To the best of my knowledge, this is what happened next:

Jon: "In 3 years of touring this is only the second time Mary's broken a string. I guess we'll just wait for her...anyone want to say anything out there"? Someone from the crowd shouts "Hot Pants"! Jon, chuckling, "Hot Pants, yeah, How's the show so far?...um, we'll just wait a bit...Uh Oh! She's going for the backup RED guitar".

Mary comes back to the michrophone, "This is for all those women guitar players that don't know you should always carry an extra guitar...Irresponsible Woman".

The perfect segue.
