Mary Prankster Threesome Makes Black Cat Excursion Worthy

You've come a long way, baby.

I know it's been a while since I've acknowledged your rocking-ness. But see, you're hopping around the country so much that when I try to hike to a mere Fletcher's show on a Friday evening, it's sold out!!! Oh Mary, why did you get this popular? Now I have to plan in advance to see you live.

Which only goes to show, Mary Prankster is the best band in the world. Even though I can't tell the difference between "You Can Tell Your Friends That I Changed" Parts One and Deux ...

After snoozing through Weekend Excursion (I had band practice so I missed Yummy Val), MP virgins Bob and Debbie stood back while I fought my way to the front, to be greeted by my favorite "Brand New Baby" and "Mata Hari." Bits and pieces of the fiery, furious opening escape my memory, but one thing's for sure - those sure are some hot new moves where Mary stands on blocks, moving hips and teasing the audience with her guitar inches above their heads.

Jon E. was sporting a longish 'do, and I could finally see Phil without the glare of his manly drum shield. "Irresponsible Woman" was irresistable, "Swan Dive" drove it home, and I can't emphasize enough how much better "The World Is Full Of Bastards" is without some cheesy guitar accessory boy trying to play lead over her sweet vocals.

"Roulette Girl" also kicked major butt, with Mary getting the soulful backup vocals from about a hundred fans.

Oh, and now Mary doesn't do encores. Neither does Dick Dale - and they both explain their distaste for encores the same way - why the hell should fans have to beg to hear the songs they love after paying their entire allowances on a great Friday night?

Rock on, rockstars!! Now stop reading this and get back on the road ...
