Sounds like a news headline, doesn't it? Problem is, I was so drunk at the Ottobar I don't remember much of the set - I think "Tits and Whisky" was played at some point, "New Tricks" at some point? I don't know. But I was excited when Mary opened with that "oh, my melancholy baby" song. I haven't heard that one in ages. And what happened to Sun? Oh, curse those gin and tonics!!
Mary had the cutest haircut!! And low and behold - I happened to be standing next to Doug, her haircutter that works in a hair cuttery in Hamden. Or at least that's what he said (I made him repeat it several times). Now he's a huge fan (as I am a huge fan of Mary Prankster's new, cute rock star haircut).
"The World Is Full Of Bastards" filled me with love for the trio, and "Valentine" filled my hole with pure goodness. Ah, it is good to be back on the scene.
Val Yumm's set was good, but Val, sweetheart, you need to wear those sexy skirts every time you play. Show it off, girl! Other than that, her set was clean and cool.
I didn't see Phil because of that gargantuan shield that prevents tomatos from being thrown at his head. I'm sure that's why he bought it because I honestly don't know how it changes the sound a bit.
If every girl in the house weren't swarming over Jon E., I might've gotten a glimpse, nevertheless, he sounded crisp. And so did Wenona Daniel, who we had the pleasure of hearing during "Roulette Girl."
Overall? A perfect production ...
