Last night's Glamour "Woman of the Year" awards was incredible. I'd say it was the best, but the event has moved me so much over the years that it's hard to tell. A big blur of inspiration. It was my fifth time, as Steve Cohn's guest, to the star-and-extraordinary-person-studded event.

I am loaded down with work today, so I can't go into too many details, but I can say that Serena Williams has some serious biceps. And Bill Clinton seems so old now -- he's lost that special zing that makes interns flock to powerful men. ;) Kidding. I like Bill. Susan Rice showed up, along with Rihanna, Maria Shriver and awesome Amy Poehler. Matt Lauer was a great host, though he didn't pack quite the punch of Stephen Colbert (last year's host). Stella McCartney is beautiful; Tyra Banks says odd things; Yoko Ono is short.

It's been a GREAT year for Zack. Not only did the Yankees snag the World Series title last night, but he got engaged to me.

My year's turning out to be pretty good so far, too. Love and sports aside, I get to review gadgets. And write stories. Like, seven stories, everyday. And on Monday, I'll be attending the Glamour "Women of the Year" event at Carnegie Hall for the fifth year in a row with my pal Steve Cohn, editor extraordinaire of Min (that's Media Industry Newsletter for all you non-journo types).

Back to the gadgets part. I'm loving the slick form factor of the new easy-to-use Flip HD video cameras. The Flip is so not my dad's camcorder. It's $299, not, $1,999, for starters. And it doesn't require a lot of instructions to use (I barely glanced at them). But uploading photos from my Mac notebook to YouTube/Facebook or e-mailing them to friends has proven a bit challenging. (Translation: It hasn't worked yet). I'll keep you posted on that one.

Geez, louise, has it really been two months since I updated this blog?

So now, four years after moving to New York, I'm living in ..... (drumroll please!) ...

Stamford, Connecticut!

The pros:

  1. Having a fulltime job is actually relaxing. I hated always having to sell myself in late 2008 through mid-2009 to editors! Now I just write about one thing: Telecommunications. It's pretty awesome. Call me a sellout. I DARE YOU!
  2. Still teach guitar in Brooklyn on Sundays (see "Cons" #2)
  3. My apartment isn't necessarily bigger here, but it sure the hell is nicer! Wall to wall beachy carpet, a full balcony where I can strum my guitar for dog walkers, a kitchen that's bigger than my engagement ring, and so on.
  4. Having a car has a few benefits. I can sing while I drive. And I'm more motivated to go out at night (for example, I only have to drive 5 minutes to get to Julie and Bridget's apartment to watch "Gossip Girl," whereas in Brooklyn, I'd have no friends within two subway stops who watched GG.
  5. My fiance's parents are awesome. We go out to dinner and to boat shows. I hang out with the family dog and play board games.

    And now, the cons:

    1. At the local open mic, my man tells me that the crowd wants covers. WTF?! So now I have to play covers.
    2. When I go to Brooklyn on Sundays to teach guitar, my heart sinks. It's like visiting your childhood home once a week. I feel so happy, but so not a part of the place I thought I'd spend my life in. So bittersweet.
    3. Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks will never replace my coffeehouse.
    4. I'm so busy I don't have time to cook in my gigantic kitchen!
    5. Car insurance is expensive. Scratch that. Just HAVING a car is expensive. I'm not saving any money in Connecticut.

Okay, that's all I'm posting for now. Check back and I'll post some pics, too. TTYL.
