Happy Memorial Day!! (Well, I guess it's not so much a happy holiday as it is one to honor troops). Then again, if you were that marine at Manahatta on Saturday night who thought saying nasty things to me would get my attention for more than five minutes, I forgo my feelings of respect. It's so funny how 24-year-old military dudes think they can get away with anything!

Yes, a wild side makes a good rock singer, and even better television. But is that wild girl part of my sweet, nostalgic past or something I want to milk deep into my 30s?

You know what's really, really rad? That our governor David Patterson, blind but, ironically, of the wandering eye variety, supports stronger gun-control laws. Amen, brother!

It's a much-discussed topic these days. Today, even, I heard excerpts of a conversation about girl-gun fetishism and "macho mamas" in an interview with Laura Browde, author of "Best Shot: Women and Guns in America." Apparently, the National Rifle Association is trying to promote images of women with guns to "soften" the public's perception of these weapons. Hmm.

In local NYC news, I'm playing a solo show for the GoGirls Spring Showcase at Otto's Shrunken Head in the East Village on Thursday. Check it out:

Happy Mother's Day! To my awesome mommy and all the new mommies I love (Karina) plus the grandmommies I love (nana, nonna, and all the sagacious ladies of the world) - here's a little poem I wrote in high school!

Mother

Disarming smile, slender arms, and toothpick legs.
All aerobics and coffee.
Uncompromising plans go well with your emotionless fix . . .
Another promotion?
Let’s celebrate with diet cupcakes.
“Hold the icing.”
Liberation keeps you free
except from me.
But I am different.
I speak when told to suppress my feelings.
I wear my heart on my sleeve
and my ears are pierced with
too much silver.
My dreams collide
with your own
but although I’m not a shoe-in for society,
I do hope to be just like you.

This just in ---> The Sauce Mistress has woken from her winter stupor with a spring-feverish slew of predictions for you! Check out this season's hottest horoscopes.

In other news, I'm psyched to be seeing the Yankees tomorrow night. Derek Jeter and A-Rod are way, way yummy (and I'm working on a Johnny Damon song, too!).

Oh -- and I'm playing the GoGirls Music Fest, May 22, at Otto's Shrunken Head in the East Village. 8:45 p.m. It'll be a solo show.

Omigod -- I just realized it's CINCO DE MAYO!!! Wow. I'm so ... sober. And working. In an office, at a desk. Checking out pics of Brangelina (hey, I'm a copyeditor and it's my livelihood -- what's your excuse?).

I had the awesomeist weekend in DC ever, with Annie B and my lil bro turning the big 2-5. Yes, Ann's quite accomplished for 25, isn't she? ;)

Her house party totally kicked butt, with awesome sets by my boys Snuggle, The Saviours (let's hear it for a pregnant Anka on bass!!) and The Ubangis (plus adora-groupie French sidekick Doe, who won my heart by telling me how cute I am, then convincing me to take off my clothes and jump into the pool with her).

And I gotta put a plug in for this awesome restaurant we went to for bro Peter's big-day celebration: Filomena in Georgetown is old-world classy, with tender-perfect lasagna, out-of-this-world salmon and finger-lickin'-good olive oil. Did I mention the free sambuca and coffeebeans? Mom LOVED that. ;)

Happy May Day!! To celebrate, I played with Doc Marten's new boot design feature here.
