About Marisa

Marisa Torrieri (aka "Marisa Mini") is a writer, rock-and-roll goddess and guitar teacher who calls Brooklyn, N.Y., home.

The Silver Spring, Md., native – who transplanted to Brooklyn, N.Y., after fetching a master's degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism in Evanston, Il. – sings and strums guitar for her eponymous band Marisa Mini & The Underage Hotties.

She's also a guitar teacher at the Brooklyn Guitar School, and has taught guitar and vocals at the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls in Brooklyn, and The Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls in Portland, Oregon.

Today, she is the proud and passionate director of communications for Girls Rock & Girls Rule, an NYC organization dedicated to promoting and expanding opportunities for women in all genres of rock and roll (beyond Britney pop).

When she's not playing one of her six guitars, Marisa spends her days as a freelance writer and copy editor for a number of media outlets, including Metromix New York, The Baltimore Examiner, OK! magazine, ZINK magazine and Venus magazine. Her work has also appeared in DailyCandy, The Village Voice and The Washington Post.

Marisa's favorite foods are sashimi and salads, and she cannot go more than 8 hours without coffee. She is a morning person who relishes late nights and all-nighters only if there's something exciting to do. A cross between a health-nut workhorse and a lively wild child, Marisa enjoys going to rock shows, running, Bikram yoga, road trips, reading The Wall Street Journal, watching reality TV and talking to friendly strangers.
